Old Fence

Old Fence1 W

Going through some of my photos I had yet to share this year, I found this one of an old fence that stands at the historical Smithfield Plantation in VA.

Deer hunting season is finally here!

Food, warm clothes, and long days…Hopefully it all pays off!

We were already blessed with one deer during muzzle loader season though and are very thankful for it!

Remembering Spring

Though I am enjoying this cold winter weather, I must say I miss all the beautiful blossoms spring brings, like these peach blossoms.

But just like life, everything comes in it’s season, and am looking forward to the sweet smells and unique beauties of spring as it comes around, but in the meantime soaking in the frosty mornings, and freezing nights, keeping warm by the fire, and enjoying the fellowship of friends around a meal on the weekends….God is so good!

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”

~Ecclesiastes 3:1~

What a beautiful morning to wake up to last week!

 I think we may be in for a colder winter this year, since this first snow was a bit early for our area.
So many delightful things flood my mind when I see views like these: chilly nights, warm sweaters, hot drinks, cozy quilts, and good books to name a few.

How about you? What are some things you enjoy about this coming winter season?

Maybe this year we an actually have enough snow to go sledding, and make a bigger snow man too! haha

Last week, our family had the opportunity to take 8 of our roosters (we had 10 all together),  and learned how to butcher chickens from some friends of ours!

Not only did we learn how to properly kill and gut the chickens, but we now have some of these birds in our freezer to enjoy many meals with!

We enjoyed our first meal out of one of them the very next evening, and found it to be the best chicken I have ever had!

Because of the fact we raised the chickens, and worked diligently to keep them well and healthy till the day we butchered them, that good hard work made the rewards that much sweeter (or in this case savory)!  :)

Be Still My Soul

“Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side;
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In ev’ry change He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heav’nly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart,
And all is darkened in the vale of tears,
Then shalt thou better know His love, His heart,
Who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears.
Be still, my soul: thy Jesus can repay
From His own fullness all He takes away.

Be still, my soul: the hour is hast’ning on
When we shall be for ever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.”

Wooded Trail

Our family was blessed by a breathtaking hike (and I do mean both terms: in its beauty, and the fact we did run part of the trails for fun! haha) with some friends recently, and had such a wonderful time!

I am continually amazed at the beauty of God’s creation, and how the narrow paths we treaded that day reminded me of the road we take as Christians in a spiritual sense, being very similar!

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”

~Psalm 16:11~

“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

~Psalm 119:105~

“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.  The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.”

~Proverbs 4:18-19~

A Sea Of Red

Wild Tomatoes 1 WM

Our greenhouse is in need of a lot of repairs, and our next project is to get it fixed for spring next year in hopes that we will start many wonderful plants in it!

Little did we know what surprise we would find there this morning!

As we were going about the beginning of our day, Andrew came inside holding something in his hand.  What a wonderful surprise it was when he showed us what lay hidden in his hand…tomatoes!  When he said where he found them (the greenhouse) and that there were tons of them growing everywhere, we got very excited, and began our harvesting expedition.

As we arrived at our poorly neglected greenhouse, ready to wrestle with some weeds, and harvest some of what we thought would be little “hidden gems”….we ended up harvesting many, and could not believe the sea of red our eyes gazed upon!

THIS photo shows a few more we harvested, and is not even all of them! :)

The Lord greatly blessed us with these wild/voluntary tomatoes, and are now enjoying the tastiest, sweetest tomatoes on the planet!

Running The Race

This weekend the Lord blessed me with a great run during a 5K my father and I did.  Both of us got first place in our age group, and at least for myself, ran my very best time yet!

I know it is a simple, trifling thing, to be so excited over a simple race, but when I think of the bigger race the Lord has called us, His children to run during this life, makes me so excited to not only strive to live all of my life for His glory, but to push myself and give my all in the simple things to reflect how important living this life really is in keeping in shape, and staying healthy to keep this “temple” well, and equipped for the days ahead.

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.”

~Hebrews 12:1~
