Nik found this amazing critter in our basement while working on a project, and brought it to me as a fun surprise!

This little guy lives along with some tadpoles a little friend of mine caught for me for the moment till I let it go into the wild woods of our backyard (which I must say will be very hard to do). :)

God’s creatures are so amazing, and I am always in awe of His handiwork.

PS. HERE is just one more look, showing all it’s beautiful colors….and a few more tadpoles. :)

Patches

This is one of three kittens mama cat had a few weeks ago.  Patches is very sweet and quiet, unlike her noisy, whiney brothers (every time you pick them up anyway).

So now that makes a total of 6 cats, 1 dog, and 22 chickens, and 1 guinea on our farm thus far, with more critters on the way!!!   The Lord is certainly blessing us with many rodent hunters, bug eaters, (soon-to-be) egg layers, future meat for our freezer and a sweet, crazy puppy!

Makita

Grandpa, my brothers, and I have been hard at work getting the chicken coop patched up last week, and while taking photos of them, this little guy was sitting, waiting to be used for the project…..both the tool, and the young man who used it did a great job!

Now on to painting this week! YAY!!!

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”

PS. The chicks are now at 5 weeks, and enjoying their new home in the coop. :)  Pictures of them coming soon!

Puppy Eyes

Ruger, our puppy (now 4 months old) is getting so big, yet is still the cutest and most lively and rambunctious ball of fluff on the farm.

His big brown eyes make me melt every time he gives me this look. *happy sigh*

Eastern Redbud

“O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord, all the earth.  Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; show forth his salvation from day to day.  Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.  For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.  For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the Lord made the heavens.  Honor and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.  Give unto the Lord, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the Lord glory and strength.  Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.  O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.  Say among the heathen that the Lord reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.  Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof.  Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice before the Lord: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.”

Our farm is continually growing, and last week it got bigger with 21 of these little darlings, and all very different and unique.  With it comes new responsibility and care that is both exciting and saddening…..saddening when 2 of the them that the Lord has put under our care dies, and have to remember that death is a normal thing that cannot be avoided, and reminds us how precious life is.

I just love chickens and seems so surreal to now have some of our very own!

We are hoping to get more very soon as our family goes through lots of eggs (a full dozen just at breakfast!), and not knowing which of these will be hens and roosters…..well, we better be prepared as you can never have too many chickens.

PS. This was no easy photo shoot, but was lots of fun….and made for some great memories! :D

It is always a joy to discover a new herb or “weed” on our property that has such great uses, and continually reminds me of how the Lord provides for us in the most unlikely ways.

This little plant: Lamium Purpureum, grows abundantly (some might say a bit too abundantly) on our property is part of the mint family, and a wonderful source of iron, fiber, and vitamins, and makes a great addition to salad!

What a special gift from the Lord!

I plan on making a green smoothie with some very soon, and dry some for tea!

PS. The reason for the name “deadnettle” is due to it’s counterpart, called the “stinging nettle” which when in contact with skin, can cause irritation when  picked, whereas the purple deadnettle is wonderful to harvest as it has no stinging/irritating effects.  :)

“The Christian should be like those lovely spring flowers which, when the sun is shining, open their golden cups, as if saying, “Fill us with thy beams!” but when the sun is hidden behind a cloud, they close their cups and droop their heads. So should the Christian feel the sweet influence of Jesus; Jesus must be his sun, and he must be the flower which yields itself to the Sun of Righteousness.”

~Charles Spurgeon~

A Snowy Drive

What an experience driving through some rough snowy weather!

Not a very good way to start our trek back home from a trip, but praise the Lord it all cleared up pretty quickly the further we drove.

“For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.”

~Isaiah 25:4~

Waiting

This young man was being very good in waiting his turn to climb up this beautiful tree once his siblings were finished exploring it first.

While he waited, we were talking about the beautiful buildings surrounding us (like this one HERE) and imagining there were bears coming to get us, and he was protecting me from them. :)

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

~Isaiah 40:31~
